WOW Air - Biz Service Review - A330 & A320 - Business Class Seats
Looking for some Mod-Nordic Glam? WOW Air dishes up a hefty dose of that to flyers every day between Europe and North America.
WOW Air is a relatively new, low-cost airline that flies out of Iceland. They popped-up on my radar when I needed a cheap one-way ticket between Copenhagen and Miami. I decided to give their "Biz" service a try - here's my review:
The Fare - "WOW Biz"
It's important to know that on WOW air you pay for EVERYTHING – even overhead luggage, coffee and water!! That's ok because their tickets are priced low.
There are three fare types - and you need to choose wisely to avoid paying all kinds of fees at the airport.
The Basic fare includes nothing but your small purse (and if you have a Hermes Birkin that's too big to qualify). For those of you with roll-aways, you'll need to pay a fee at the airport to store them on-board.
The next fare up - Plus - includes a carry-on suitcase, checked bag, and cancellation protection.
Finally the next fare up - Biz - includes everything:
- Carry-On Bag
- Checked Bag
- Premium Seating
- Advanced Boarding
- Meal & Beverage
- Cancellation Protection
I was 'in' for the Biz fare the minute I saw the premium seating option!
I went in knowing, as should you, that this was not going to be a real Business Class -- not even close! What you're getting is a much, MUCH better seat.
I paid about $175 more for the Biz fare – and it was well worth it.
Before I start talking about the flights - I have to call out the absolutely cool, hip cabin crews on WOW Air. They were over-the-top, and set the 60's vibe for the whole flight! Austin Powers would have been proud.
I loved their mod, hot-pink uniforms that turned heads in the airport. If Barbie was a flight attendant she'd work for WOW Air!
Moreover, most of them had humungous, cantilevered buns on the back of their heads. I kept looking to see if they were real as Rapunzel wouldn't have had enough hair to coiffe one of these masterpieces!
Part One: Copenhagen to Reykjavik
A320: XXL Seat
The first part of my journey started with a flight from Copenhagen to Reykjavik on WOW's bright pink A320. There's nothing low-key about their branding – the colorful jets were stand-outs on the tarmac.
On the A320, WOW does not have a separate cabin for Biz passengers, but flyers booked on that fare have access to their XXL seats. These were situated in the exit row.
The amount of room to stretch out was almost criminal as you can see! I was overjoyed when I saw how much room I had for my 3-hour flight. A basketball player would have been comfortable!
Biz Fare passengers have priority boarding – so I had no problem securing space for my bag. In fact, there was next to no issues with getting overhead space as WOW strictly enforces charging for it.
As soon as the flight took off, the crew was in the aisles with food & beverage service. As noted – you pay for everything on WOW, including water. However, with my biz ticket I received a tasty, hot ham & cheese baguette, a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a coffee.
Part Two: Reykjavik to Miami
A330: Biz Big Seat
The transfer in Reykjavik was a breeze, and the glam was amped up once I boarded my Miami flight.
The A330 that flies this route has a separate premium cabin with massive lipstick-purple leather seats: 10 of them in a 2-3-2 configuration.
The business class seats were SUPER comfortable. I felt like I was sitting in a sports car. They had generous recline and came equipped with extending foot-rests. They were about the same size as most US domestic first class seats, but with more character!
Each seat come equipped with a cocktail table and wide arm rest, electrical outlets and controls to adjust the recline and footrests.
Don't expect lobster and Krug on the transatlantic crossing – even if you're in the premium cabin. The dinner offered to Miami was exactly the same between Copenhagen and Reykjavik: a sandwich and drink. I opted for the same meal that I had on my Denmark segment as it was so good the first time!
I am thrilled about this airline!
I loved their cool cabins and flight crew.
Their biz seats are fantastic – mod, comfortable, and roomy! I had no trouble sleeping while our A330 jetted across the Atlantic.
As an added bonus – it wasn't expensive. It has to be the cheapest premium seating product I've ever encountered. Well worth the upgrade from an already low fare!
