Air New Zealand Business Class Lounge Review - Melbourne (MEL)
Air New Zealand has some of the coolest lounges in the world and it’s always a treat to visit one of them! Bold colors, mod furniture, and fabulous food! Definitely a fab place to pass time before a flight.
On a recent trip to Australia I had the chance to pop into their facility in Melbourne. Here’s my review:
The Air New Zealand Lounge in Melbourne actually feels like a hip nightclub – for so many reasons. To start, the place is lit with LED Hue lighting that emits dynamic blues and pinks. I felt a bit underdressed and half expected to see a dance floor! The cocktail chic furniture and partitioned enclaves further enhance the club-like atmosphere!
The one deficiency in the Melbourne Lounge is that’s practically in the basement of the airport. It’s actually at tarmac level – but under a lot of gate equipment so it’s a bit dark. Air New Zealand does their best to overcome this with extensive use of backlit outdoor panoramas in key spots.
Food & Beverage
I was there at breakfast and they had plenty of options on hand including an impressive array of morning shakes, yogurts, and mueslis.
There was a full buffet of breakfast favorites including eggs, ham, sausages, etc. All of that is normal in international lounge land…but they did have something rarely seen airside: hotcakes!
If you’ve ever stayed at a Holiday Inn Express you’ll be familiar with an automated pancake machine. At the push of a button it prepares a fresh hotcake that emerges piping hot in under a minute. Delightfully, Air New Zealand has one of these treasures in Melbourne!
Residents of Australia and New Zealand are serious coffee connoisseurs – and this lounge delivers a fabulous cup of java to meet their expectations. I had a cappuccino from the coffee bar - and it was perfecto!
I was there at 7am – so I didn’t sample any of their spirits, but it looked like they had all of the standards at the bar. There was also plenty of glassware on hand - so I’m sure the place gets hopping later in the day.
The hipster vibe of the lounge even carries over into the showers. They look fab!
A striking grey stone-like tile covers the wall (I’m not sure if it’s real). This definitely makes the place feel luxurious. Each room is also equipped with a New Zealand favorite: the boutique Antipods line of shampoos, soaps and lotions.
Melbourne’s Air New Zealand Lounge is a great place to visit if you’re jetting around the South Pacific! It has a sleek ambiance, scrumptious-fresh food, and plenty of beverages!
